Cast of Characters

Hi! So, you might want to know who I am and why I call this blog Magenta Colored Thoughts. Well, the title is an easy one to explain. For as long as I have been online (since 1992 in the days of the BBS), I have had the handle Magenta, taken from a character from one of my favorite movies, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. When I say that movie changed my life, I am not lying. I met a lot of great people who were on local casts (yes, the people who acted out the movie while the movie was running) and I learned that I was a pretty great person, even if I don't fit into a neat little box and my personality is kind of quirky. I really liked the little world I created for myself as Magenta and I even met my husband online in 1998!

Who am I to the rest of the world? I am Laura, a wife, mother and all around nice person. I don't talk on the phone unless I have to, I prefer email or texting. I am the person who feels compelled to quote movie lines in regular conversation. I am very quiet and shy but when I really get to know you I don't shut up. I am sarcastic, funny but never intentionally cruel with either. I have struggled with anxiety, depression and panic attacks for most of my life and I know that while I'll never be cured of these issues, I can cope. I am finally starting to be comfortable with who I am. I save a ton of money when I go shopping. I also make a mean chocolate chip cookie. I am always a work in progress.

C is my husband and he is just the best guy ever. He is smart, funny, handsome, calming, a great father and an amazing provider. He works in IT and is the go-to guy for the family if you need anything done with electronics or technology. He shares my geek sensibilites and always makes me laugh. He also single-handedly keeps the Coca-Cola company in the red with his love of Diet Coke. He also has blue eyes that will take your breath away and I am lucky to share my life with him.

N (aka Speck) is my oldest son. He is 7 years old and is tearing up the First grade scene. He has recently taken off with his reading and spelling which means that C and I can no longer cover up when we are saying something not for children's ears. He cracks us up on a regular basis because he has an amazing sense of humor. He has Sensory Processing Disorder (oral-motor, vestibular and social/emotional areas)which he is coping with very well so you might read of a few of this trials and what we do to help him in his journey. When he grows up he would like to be a basketball player, Jedi or a judge.

J (aka Jem) is my youngest son, he is 4, in Pre-K and simply put, he is a pistol. He has a mind that is constantly going and he loves to ask questions. If you can't find out a reason for something, he'll make one up- his imagination is unstoppable. He keeps us on our toes with his fearless approach to life and his strong will.  His hero is his older brother and when asked what he wants to be when he grows up he wasn't sure, he just wants to play with his toys for right now.
